Barber Institute Celebrates DSP Week

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf has proclaimed September 10-16, 2017 as Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week in Pennsylvania. The event is designed to highlight the role and work of direct support professionals who assist adults with disabilities meet a wide range of needs to achieve more independent and fulfilling lives.

Nearly 1,400 direct support professionals at the Barber National Institute are working in programs in the Erie, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia regions that include day services, residential, employment, supported living and lifesharing.

"Every week, I hear from family members who tell me how impressed they have been by the compassionate care that direct support professionals are providing to their loved ones,” said John Barber, president and CEO of the Barber National Institute. “On behalf of our board of directors and administrative team, I want to commend these dedicated professionals for the work that they do every day to make dreams come true for our adults and families.”
