2018 Graduates Celebrate
Fifty-nine students crossed the stage Monday night to receive diplomas in graduation ceremonies at the Barber National Institute. A crowd of more than 300 parents, family members and faculty attended to mark this milestone for students at the Elizabeth Lee Black School. Many of the students have overcome significant challenges to reach this achievement.
Seven students received their high school equivalency diplomas and concluded their education at the Barber National Institute, and two elementary students will move on to attend classes in their home school districts in the fall. Also, 50 youngsters graduated from early childhood programs and will be preparing for kindergarten.
Following the presentation of diplomas, teacher Julie Moore led the group in the Barber Institute song, “Celebrate What’s Different.” The song was written by Julie and her husband, Chris Moore, both also of Tennessee Backporch.
