Barber National Institute has been an active and vital part of the Philadelphia community since it began providing services in the region more than 30 years ago.
In initiating services in Philadelphia, Barber National Institute was responding to a request from former Governor Dick Thornburg to provide residential homes to adults returning to their homes from state institutions. Since three group homes were first opened in 1990, Barber National Institute has expanded residences in Philadelphia, Bucks and Montgomery counties.
