Keystone Donation Funds Preschool Scholarships
The Preschool Scholarship program funded through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program received a boost with a $20,000 donation from Keystone Health Plan West. The scholarship program provides up to $1,000 to qualifying families to fund preschool. "For many families, it is the scholarship program that makes a quality preschool education possible for their children," said Dr. Maureen Barber-Carey, executive vice president of the Barber National Institute. "The letters of thanks that we receive from parents really express how important this is to families in our community."
Over the past two years, scholarships totaling more than $87,000 have been awarded to 96 families.
The EITC program enables businesses to make a contribution and receive a reduction in their Pennsylvania taxes. In addition to the preschool scholarship program, the Barber National Institute also administers a program to fund technology and adaptive equipment for students in the Elizabeth Lee Black School.
